Women who are of reproductive age may have a variety of menstrual cycles. Among these women, many track their period to find out when they ovulate in order to become pregnant or to avoid pregnancy. If you are someone who regularly tracks your period, you may notice that cervical mucus changes throughout the month. You may also know that on occasion, your menstrual blood may suddenly be bright red. If you have bright red period blood, do not panic quite yet. Depending on your body and physical composition, you may have this type of blood from time to time. Even if this is a completely new development, it is not necessarily a cause for concern.
Is Bright Red Period Blood Normal?
When you have your period, it is normal for the blood to be bright red during the start of your menstrual cycle. Afterward, the blood tends to become darker. This is because the blood ages in the uterus for a few days before it comes out of the body. While some women have darker period blood, it is perfectly normal to have bright red period blood.
The only times when this is a sign of a problem is when you do not normally have bright red period blood. This may be due to the fact that you never noticed before, or there could be another explanation. If there is another explanation, these are the other possible problems that could be causing it.
An Ovarian Cyst
It is entirely possible that bright red period blood is caused by an ovarian cyst. When the cyst ruptures or bursts, it may cause bright red blood to appear. You May Have Had a Miscarriage

Orange Period Blood
It is fairly common to have orange period blood. This occurs when your normal menstrual fluids mix with cervical fluid that is present. Dark Period Blood

If you have irregular and infrequent periods, the blood may have just been stuck in the folds of the uterine wall and had time to age. It is generally not a sign of a problem, and brown or black period blood just means that the blood had more time to age than normal.

Foods that have a lot of sugar or salt can cause your cramps to actually be worse. Although you may be inclined to reach for some cheese or a chocolate bar during your period, dairy and chocolate can actually make your period cramps feel much worse than they normally would.
Stay Hydrated and Eat Healthy
Like the last step, this one is focused on what you do to stay healthy. You will want to make sure that you eat a well-balanced diet because it will ensure that your hormones are in balance. Make sure that you eat plenty of B vitamins, beta carotene, vitamin D, vitamin A, iron and omega 3 fatty acids. If you have breast tenderness, cramps or mood swings, adding some cinnamon to your food can also help.
Try a Heating Pad
Although you can always try pain killers, a heating pad is often just as effective at dealing with cramps. Turn on the heating pad and place it on your lower stomach until your cramps go away or at least become more bearable.
You already have cramps to deal with—don’t make your discomfort worse by wearing heels, tight jeans or a fitted shirt. Choose comfortable clothes that you can relax in. As a back up measure, you may want to bring a jacket along because you can wrap it around your waist to hide any unintentional leaks.
Although many women have regular start and end times for their period, your menstrual cycle can start without warning. Rather than deal with the awkwardness of taking an emergency lunch break or asking around for tampons, make sure to keep a supply of panty liners, pads or tampons with you.
