High Cheekbones vs. Low Cheekbones

In the sparring between high cheekbones vs. low cheekbones, most people feel that those who have high cheekbones appear more attractive. But beauty is a subjective thing, and what you see as beautiful another person might not. So does it really make a difference whether someone has high or low cheekbones?

There aren’t any precise measurements when comparing high and low cheekbones, but there are some differences. High cheekbones appear right below the eye, or you may notice them towards the upper part of a person’s nose. Low cheekbones are towards the bottom of the nose, and sometimes below the nose.

You probably know good-looking women and men who are great looking, whether they have high or low cheekbones. The beauty of a person’s face does not rest on cheekbone position alone. Some people feel that prominent cheekbones are more closely linked to good looks than low or high cheekbones.

High Cheekbones vs Low Cheekbones

You’ve undoubtedly heard of high cheekbones, but what does it mean? If a person has high cheekbones, the widest part of his face is just below his eyes. This results in the cheek dipping in below the bone, which gives the cheekbone a more prominent look. This dip could cause a shadow, which accentuates the face more.

Cheek Shapes & Meanings

High cheekbones vs low cheekbones is a dispute that has a great deal of meaning in some cultures. In a few Asian cultures, high cheeks are seen as a sign that the person possesses great power, and it is believed that people with high cheekbones are more determined and courageous. This means that these people, who have higher cheekbones, are considered to be more desirable.

In the US, one of our most revered presidents was Abe Lincoln. He had very prominent and high cheekbones. His immense success and the way he was loved by citizens played into the singular belief that someone with high cheekbones is naturally more successful, or more intelligent.

What’s wrong with low cheekbones? People with them may be considered to be loners, who prefer to spend their time alone. Some people believe that they have a problem when getting someone to listen to what they have to say. They may be believed to experience more stress than others. They may have indented or sunken chests, which some people relate to undergoing grief or working too hard.

Why do so many People prefer High Cheekbones?

People with high cheekbones are certainly believed by many members of society to be beautiful. They create a face that is more symmetrical, and this is more often noticed by others, and seen as being appealing. As a matter of fact, high cheekbones are often considered an asset to people like fashion models.

High cheekbones have sexual connotations, too. They are said to prove that women are old enough to reproduce. As for men, they may signify higher than average levels of testosterone in some people’s eyes. These traits both reveal that people with higher cheekbones are often considered more desirable physically, thanks to our first ancestors and their drive to reproduce above anything else.

How to make your Cheekbones more Prominent

People with prominent cheekbones always tend to attract the public’s eye, whether they have high or low cheekbones. Unless you are looking into plastic surgery, you’re probably stuck with the cheekbones you were born with.

You can use makeup to overcome low cheekbones, though.

What you’ll need:

Brushes, highlighter, contour powder or bronzing powder, foundation and blush

Simple Steps

Suck in your cheeks to determine where the hollows lay. This will show you where your cheekbones are. Tilt one brush at about a 45 degree angle, while placing it on your cheekbone.

Figure out where you’ll need to contour to create the look of high cheekbones, and where that contour will start. Hold your brush vertically at the end of your eyebrows, which is where you will end your contouring.

Use a quality bronzing powder that is a few shades darker than your natural skin tone. Place the bronzer below your hairline, and swipe it down to a bit less than half your cheekbone length. Don’t allow the powder to cross the area of your cheekbone.

Use a fluffier brush and apply blush to the small area below your cheekbone. Blend it into the bronzer, so that it looks more natural.

Select a highlighter that will complement your bronzing. Apply it above both cheekbones with a small fluffy brush. You may opt to use a shimmer blush, if you prefer.
