Many women do not think that they are pregnant until they miss their first period. This typically occurs about 14 or 15 days past ovulation. Because of this, many women at eight days post ovulation (8 DPO) do not realize that they are pregnant yet.
During ovulation, the ovary releases an egg into the Fallopian tube. Afterward, the egg waits to be fertilized by sperm. If the egg is fertilized, it will end up implanting on the wall of the uterus and becoming a fetus. Implantation does not immediately happen after fertilization, so it may be a couple of days before your body even realizes that it is pregnant.
What Are the Most Common Symptoms at 8 DPO?
While most women do not experience any symptoms at this point, there are a few that can happen. At this stage in the game, the pregnancy hormone hCG doubles every few days. Because of this, women who do not have symptoms at eight days post ovulation may develop symptoms in a few more days or weeks. The rise in progesterone levels in early pregnancy can also cause symptoms like increased fatigue. Out of the symptoms reported by women at 8 DPO, the following 10 symptoms are the most common:
1. Extreme Fatigue
2. Mild Cramps
4. Bloating Around the Stomach and Abdomen
6. Sore Breasts
8. An Increase in Cervical Fluid
9. Extremely Vivid Dreams
10. Sore Nipples
After you become pregnant, your body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone is responsible for many of the pregnancy symptoms. Until your hCG levels are high enough, you may not experience any symptoms at all. Pregnancy symptoms at 8 DPO can vary from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy.
A Look at Some of the Symptoms at 8 DPO
1. Implantation Bleeding
When the egg is fertilized, it will not immediately implant itself on the wall of the uterus. Normally, this will occur about 8 to 10 days after fertilization. At implantation, you may experience slight cramping or light bleeding. Some women mistake implantation bleeding for their menstrual cycle, but it will be much, much lighter than your normal cycle.
2. Tender Breasts
Another early pregnancy sign at 8 DPO could be tender, swollen breasts. The higher hormone levels after conception causes your breasts to swell and become increasingly sensitive. Your body is increasing blood flow to your breasts, which can also cause increased sensitivity in your nipples.
3. Morning Sickness
During the first trimester, most women will experience morning symptoms. While it is called “morning sickness,” it can actually happen at any time during the day or at any stage of pregnancy. Often, certain foods or smells can trigger nausea.
4. Headaches and Dizziness
As your hormonal levels change, it can cause the amount of fluid in your body to change. Blood volume and circulation adjust as a result, so you may end up experiencing dizziness and headaches. Drinking plenty of fluids can help combat this problem.
