Did you know that in order to lose of one pound of fat you would need to burn 3,500 calories. Either that or you would need a calorie deficit of 3,500 calories. What that means is that you would either need to not eat 3,500 calories (for example, over the course of one week) to lose that one pound of fat, or you would need to work out until you have burnt off 3,500 calories.
It sounds like a lot but when you look a little closer, it’s not actually that much at all. Especially when you start to look at things like jumping jacks calories. Exercises that you can do from the comfort of your own home are one of the best ways to burn off those excess pounds.
What Are Jumping Jacks?
These are one of the simplest exercises you can do at home and the good news is that you can start off small and work your way up.
To start with, you need to stand up straight, arms out by your sides and feet at shoulder width apart. You will jump and bring your feet together, bringing your hands down by your sides too before jumping back out again, moving the feet apart and moving the arms to an extended position once more. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials you can take a peek at, and there are plenty of exercise regimes that incorporate them too.
A great activity, you are moving your entire body putting in the same exercise category as other weight-bearing activities – walking, running and jogging, for example.
A high-impact exercise, it is not advisable to perform lots of jumping jacks (or any at all) if you have other injuries or health concerns. They can have quite the impact on your legs, knees and ankles so if yours are damaged or weak, this isn’t an exercise you will find easy to do.
What About Jumping Jacks Calories?
The important information – how many calories jumping jacks can actually burn – will very much depend on you. It will depend on how fast you do them, how much you weigh and how much weight you are bearing when you jump, currently fitness level, etc.
Consider to be cardiovascular workout, it’s a great one to get the body kick-started with, starting the heart beating faster and getting that blood pumping around your body.
If you weight approximately 150 pounds, and you are an otherwise fit and healthy adult, half an hour’s worth of jumping jacks will burn off roughly 150-200 calories. It is probably a little inadvisable to do jumping jacks for a full half an hour (plus we’re not sure if anyone can actually do that) but it is assumed that you would burn around 5 calories for every minute of jumping jacks. That many jumping jacks would definitely have an impact on your body, especially your musculoskeletal system.
If you speed things up, making your jumping jacks as fast as you can make them, you could burn up to 9 or 10 calories per minute if you weigh 150 pounds.
